The Curve of Change

Why is change so hard?  Every time we make a decision we make a change.  It sounds so simple and yet it can cause stress, anxiety, joy, excitement, or even peace.  Then add at least one more person and the change can take on a new twist.  As a professional, we typically need to think about staying ahead of the curve of change.  Researchers have figured out that when we deal with change it is possible to go through a cognitive process similar to losing a loved one.  Hopefully you have not experienced such a dramatic change on a daily basis.  The business world has devised a diagram displaying the curve with each of the stages of grief embedded in it.  It looks like this...http://susanhendrich.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/changecurve_grief.jpg

We can either fight against the change or welcome it.  For the most part, I try to welcome the change; however, it does not always work that way.  Sometimes I find myself negotiating change.  This strategy works much easier and better with my family than it does with my colleagues.  I wonder what kind of changes are coming my way and how I can stay ahead of them.  Attached is a link explaining a deeper theoretical review and connection within andragogical principles if you would like to learn more information.
