The Curve of Change

Why is change so hard?  Every time we make a decision we make a change.  It sounds so simple and yet it can cause stress, anxiety, joy, excitement, or even peace.  Then add at least one more person and the change can take on a new twist.  As a professional, we typically need to think about staying ahead of the curve of change.  Researchers have figured out that when we deal with change it is possible to go through a cognitive process similar to losing a loved one.  Hopefully you have not experienced such a dramatic change on a daily basis.  The business world has devised a diagram displaying the curve with each of the stages of grief embedded in it.  It looks like this...http://susanhendrich.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/changecurve_grief.jpg

We can either fight against the change or welcome it.  For the most part, I try to welcome the change; however, it does not always work that way.  Sometimes I find myself negotiating change.  This strategy works much easier and better with my family than it does with my colleagues.  I wonder what kind of changes are coming my way and how I can stay ahead of them.  Attached is a link explaining a deeper theoretical review and connection within andragogical principles if you would like to learn more information.

Staying Ahead of the Curve of Change

What is Andragogy?

As an educator, many professionals are familiar with the term pedagogy and wonder about the term andragogy.  Pedagogical environments tend to have a teacher who lectures to the students and in turn the students must complete various assignments independently.  Andragogical environments occur when the teacher assumes the role of a co-facilitator and creates an interactive environment for the students.  As the blog emerges, more definitions and in-depth reflections will be made.  Above I have created a word cloud pertaining to the andragogical principles I have studied these past few weeks.  Please feel free to send your comments and thoughts as well as additional words for a revised word cloud in the next few months.

Have a great day!

A brief introduction

Hi,
Welcome to my blog!  It is designed as a way for me to record my thoughts, interests, and questions regarding the field of andragogy.  Since I tend to take theoretical concepts and make them practical for educators to use, many resources will be shared.  Feel free to use these resources as long as you cite the works appropriately.  In exchange, please feel free to share your comments, thoughts, and resources.
